About Renee DeSorbo
I have always loved the beauty and wonder that can be found in the smallest of places. My passion for the arts heavily influences everything I do and who I am. My two degrees from the University of Southern Maine in Studio Art and English was how I believed I would follow my passion. I also received a minor in Poetry, but like many artists, I struggled finding work. Going to the Electrology Institute of New England meant that I was going to invest in myself in a new way. I knew this was something I could excel at and I wanted to help other people. I am so glad I found the courage to do something unusual. My job as an electrologist is incredibly rewarding. I love my clients and I feel so honored to be a part of their transformation. I love helping clients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) or hirsutism finally get rid of excessive hair. I love helping clients who are preparing for bottom surgery. I take pride in being someone my clients can count on.
Giving back matters:
Honey Bee Electrolysis has proudly made charitable donations to: World Central Kitchen (over 1K), The Children's Organ Transplant Association, The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine, USA for UNHCR (United Nations Human Rights Council), The Longest Day Alzheimer’s Association and a local girl scout troop in Gray, Maine.
Common Questions
DOES ELECTROLysis REALLY WORK?
Absolutely. Proper insertions from a skilled technician guarantees permanency. It is the only FDA approved method of permanent hair removal. I believe in this method and it has helped me feel good about myself. I am excited to offer more choices about permanent hair removal to you and your community. Honey Bee Electrolysis wants you to be happy and hair free. Even if you have had electrolysis done in the past and found it was not effective, consider trying a different technician who can try different electrical current settings. When done properly electrolysis shows immediate results.
WHAT ABOUT LASER?
Whenever you are working on a larger area on the body with thick dark hair consider starting with laser hair removal first. Although it is not FDA approved for permanency it can thin thick dark hair out quickly. Laser is permanent hair reduction which could save you time and money with an electrologist. Good candidates for laser include: someone with full thick dark facial hair (this means hair all over the chin, neck, sides of face and upper/lower lip), leg hair, an individuals entire back or chest and or someone’s entire genital area. Once laser has done all it can for you, finish the job with an electrologist.
Shaving, Plucking, Threading And Waxing:
When hairs are forcibly removed blood is brought to the surface of your skin. This can make hormonal hairs healthier; aiding them to grow deeper into your skin with bigger bulbs. Electrolysis works by treating the bulbs with electrical current before removing the hair. When this is done properly, during the hair’s growth period, it will let go, sliding out of the follicle without being plucked.
BIOTIN AND COLLAGEN:
Are you taking biotin or collagen supplements orally? Have you noticed an increase in facial and body hair? It usually takes about 12 weeks to see the effects of taking such supplements and are great for growing hair everywhere. Consider using biotin only in your shampoo or conditioner so you are growing hair only where you want it. I ask clients to refrain form taking such supplements orally because it counteracts with electrolysis treatments.
GETting STARTED:
Please send a detailed email including what you need done to renee@honeybelectrolysis.com. For those with facial hair that they would like to be removed please send some photos of the effected areas. If your facial hair is fine, blond, soft, and does not photograph well, then this clinic is not for you. I am not accepting clients who want peach-fuzz or vellus hair removed. Vellus hair belongs on your body and it is best to leave it alone. Thank you for your understanding. If you need bottom prep done do not send photos of your genitalia. Please tell me important information about your surgery like who is the surgeon and a copy of the hair removal map. Also please be aware I unfortunately do not accept MaineCare or insurance of any kind. I can give you a detailed receipt for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Electrologist’s do not have a nurse practitioners license which prevents us from accepting insurance.
How frequent will i come?
The average hair growth cycle is twelve weeks long. Each hair is on its own schedule within those twelve weeks. In order to make sure every hair in the affected area has been treated at least once, it is best to be in touch with your electrologist for twelve weeks before seeing any large permanent results. After this twelve week mark it is easier to see what effect the treatments have had on your hairs. All hairs require a different number of treatments. Thinner hair would need less treatment than a thicker hair. Some clients only need to come once during a cycle (once every 12 weeks) while others might need to come by weekly until the growth is under control.
Before And After CarE:
It is best to come to the clinic with clean and healthy skin. Before your treatment, any makeup, creams, and perfumes should be removed. A lot of people have sensitivities to perfumes so please refrains from using perfume on days you’ll be visiting. It is also important not to use any retinol/retinal treatments and any products containing salicylic or hyaluronic acid at least a week before and after your appointment. A burn (electrolysis) on a burn (retinol or acids) is too much heat and you run the risk of damaging your skin. It’s also important to keep your skin clean and hydrated so it can recover properly from electrolysis. The specifics of this will be covered in your visit.
A few google reviews:
“I have been working with Renee at Honey Bee Electrolysis for permanent hair removal. She is very competent and the electrolysis technique is effective. It has really helped my self esteem so much, I have been suffering with low self confidence due to the unwanted hair for so long. It was a bit painful throughout the sessions but worth it for the end result of no maintenance and no more unwanted hair! So grateful and I wish I had done it sooner.
Renee is one of the best in the business! She is professional, friendly and transgender affirming. Love love Renee!
Renee is a serious rockstar all-around! Kind human, impeccable at her craft, and full of knowledge to keep you informed and empowered on your hair removal journey. The care she takes with her clients is rare to find and a breath of fresh air. I trust her with all my heart—money and time well spent!
Renée is the best! She is the best electrologist I have seen and does a great job explaining the process so that you know what to expect. She’s very communicative and conscientious to help minimize pain while zapping those little hairs into oblivion. Her sense of humor is great. I really enjoy my sessions and my results!
Whether you are looking to permanently shape your eyebrows, or whether you are looking to find a solution to unwanted hair, Renee at Honey Bee Electrolysis is the professional who will provide you superior results in a warm and relaxing environment. I have had electrolysis treatments elsewhere where I have had redness that has lasted for days and even bruising. Renee’s approach is very different, and I never have such problems!
You would be more than fortunate to score a coveted appointment with Renee. So if you are looking for a truly permanent solution to unwanted hair, call her immediately. You will be beyond happy with the results!
